We are two Americans starting a business in the Philippines. CocoJoe has been coming here for the past few years developing the business and CocoShell made the move here in January 2012. In between the 18 hour work days, 7 days a week, we often found ourselves smiling or laughing uncontrollably at unexpected moments. We haven't quite figured out if this is due to overwork or 'fish out of water' cultural differences in this part of the world. Either way, we felt compelled to document some of our experiences in this magical place we call CocoBurbia.
The Philippines is a warm, balmy archipelago of 7,100 islands also known as the Pearl of the Orient. It is a land rich in culture and natural resources. Although there are many similarities to life in America, there are enough differences that make each day full of unexpected surprises that are sometimes frustrating and other times strangely funny. CocoBurbia is our attempt to capture some of the lighter side of our experience here for our friends, family, and anyone else who stumbles upon our site. Also, living on the opposite side of the globe poses various communication challenges, not the least of which is that when it is day here it is night back home. CocoBurbia serves as a way for our friends and family to stay connected while we're here.
CocoBurbia is primarily for our own enjoyment and to provide anyone so inclined with a glimpse into the lighter side of living and developing a business in this part of the world. Our posts are not intended to disrespect where we are or who we meet. Hopefully you will have some fun through our eyes until we get to tell our stories in person when we return stateside.
